A year ago today, our lives changed forever. We started the day off early and were full of excitement, walking out of the loft with smiles on our faces and a little extra pep in our step.
We drove over an hour and then took a ferry to cross the mighty Mississippi. Now safely on the other side, a bit more driving until we arrived at our destination just outside of Brussels, IL. We could barely contain our excitement. I remember both of us were just cheesing up a storm and I literally could see the sparkle in Matt’s eyes and I’ll never forget that feeling because my heart felt like it was going to explode. We were picking up our new, sweet, little flufball (with huge paws)….and we named him Matches! He literally looked like a real life teddy bear. His head was round and his fur was so fluffy and soft, and the prettiest golden color. We both wanted to hold him so it was hard for us to do the necessary paperwork the breeders needed from us. Matches is a goldador (which neither of us had heard of before when we first met him the week prior). He is a golden retriever / golden lab mix = goldador. I thought everything about him was ridiculously adorable, and then to top it off his breed sounds like it nearly describes him “gold-ador” = adorable.
It was finally time for the three of us to load up in the car and head home! Matches sat on my lap and Matt drove. I felt so lucky to hold him and couldn’t stop smiling. We stopped to let him out in case he had to go to the bathroom and we both cheered when he did his first tinkel for us :) He was such a good boy in the car, it almost seemed too good to be true. We fell in love with him the first day we met him and now he was home with us! To say we were Matches obsessed is a bit of an understatement as we even made up a song, just for him. Oh little Matches! Do do do do dooo do! Don’t worry, I’ll save the rest of it for another time.
Now today, August 3, 2020, a year later we are celebrating his “gotcha day” and we couldn’t be happier! He literally brings joy to us every single day, impresses us with how smart he is, and warms our hearts with how sweet he can be….he’s the best boy in the world!
So there you have it….the story of our little Matches pup….and the namesake for our company. There couldn’t be a better day to start our journey with Matches and Company, as this is a day we will never forget.
